Please refer to our TERMS AND CONDITIONS for further details.

FAQ for tutors:

1. How will prospective students contact me?

When a potential client has made a tuition enquiry, we will automatically send you an e-mail inviting you to log in to your member area and respond to the request, which we would suggest you do as soon as possible. Tutors who do not reply to clients will have their profiles suspended so other tutors can benefit from the opportunities.

2. How do I start tutoring?

When both you and your prospective student have confirmed you both are happy to proceed with the tuition request, and any additional details have been established using our private members area, you can swap contact details to arrange a first lesson. We suggest this first lesson is arranged as quickly as possible.

3. How do I change my profile?

Registered members of TutorDatabase are free to log in at any time to make changes to their profiles or update their fees.

4. How do I pay my fees to TutorDatabase?

For now our services remain free.

5. I understand clients can leave feedback about me, how does this work?

Clients can rate their tutor on the tutor’s profile. The tuition industry is very reliant on recommendations, so the more positive feedback you receive as a tutor – as displayed on your profile, the more enquiries you are likely to get. Of course, tutors can also dispute any feedback.

6. What if a client decides he or she no longer requires my tuition?

If this happens prior to the exchange of details it is likely that your client has simply selected another tutor because they can offer better rates, live closer or, or meet the personal requirements of that user better than you can. Please do not take this personally; another request could come your way at any time!

If you have exchanged details remember that most clients put a lot consideration into choosing a tutor, so it would be a waste of their time to change their minds. In the rare instance this does happen, it is because the tutor has left too long between receiving a client’s contact details and initiating tuition.

7. Do I need a police clearance certificate to be a tutor?

No, although bear in mind that many parents find it reassuring. In the absence of a clearance certificate it will always help to have references available for clients to contact.

8. What qualifications do I need to be a tutor?

You need to have proved that you have excelled in the subject at the same level or above the one you are tutoring by having obtained an A or B symbol at least. For example: To teach high school maths, an A or B in matric is a prerequisite, or, further education in this field at tertiary level. For primary tutoring, experience or a PGCE is recommended.

9. Are tutors employed by TutorDatabase?

None of the tutors listed are employed by TutorDatabase. We merely provide a secure advertising platform for tutors list their details. All tutors work on a self-employed basis.

10. I’m an international student, can I be a tutor?

Of course you can! As long as you are authorised by the terms of your visa to work on a self-employed basis.
